What Is Gum Recession?

Gum recession is the loss of gum tissue along the line where the teeth meet the gums. It is often a result of gum disease, but it can also be a result of the aging process, clenching or grinding your teeth (bruxism) or even overly vigorous brushing. When the gums recede, the root structure of the teeth can become exposed. This can lead to a cycle of worsening tooth decay and gum disease, potentially leading to tooth shifting and even tooth loss. Treating gum recession is essential to oral health.

Traditional Gum Recession Treatment

Although deep cleaning, such as scaling and root planing can heal inflamed gums, it is insufficient for treating gum recession. Instead, gum grafting is typically required. Gum Grafting requires, donor tissue being cut from your palate and sutured onto the existing tissue. Over time the tissues heal, this procedure has been the traditional solution for treating gum recession. It does have some drawbacks, that are solved with the Pinhole Technique.

The Pinhole Technique

Dr. John Chao created the Pinhole Technique and has personally trained Dr. Calat.  To perform the procedure, a small needle is used to create a tiny hole in the existing gum tissue. A series of specialized instruments are then used to gently loosen the tissue and redistribute it over the receded areas. There are no incisions or sutures, and virtually no post-operative pain or bleeding.

Why Should I Choose the Pinhole Technique?

The Pinhole Technique is minimally invasive. You do not need to donate tissue from your palate, and you do not need to cope with uncomfortable sutures. Recovery time is minimal, and the results are predictable, long-lasting, and highly natural in appearance.

If you are ready for a better, less invasive solution for severe gum recession, call 201-659-6999 to schedule your appointment.
