Michele Carunchio Atiencia, DDS, MD
Dr. Michele Carunchio Atiencia is a dual degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who completed her dental degree in 2011 at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine in the city of New York. She remained at Columbia University for the following six years to continue her training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. During her Residency program, Dr. Carunchio obtained her MD degree at Columbia’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, she participated in advanced training in Anesthesiology and completed a 1-year internship in General Surgery at the University’s Medical Center in 2015.
Dr. Carunchio joined our practice upon completion of residency in 2017, and while she can be found operating mostly out of our Hoboken location, she maintains all active licenses in both states. She is an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, amongst several local professional affiliations. Dr. Carunchio has displayed a conservative, yet innovative approach to her surgical style, always putting patient safety first and including the patient in making important decisions about their treatment. She is currently on staff at Hoboken University Medical Center, which is just a short walk from the office.
Dr. Carunchio owes her keen attention to detail and her fine hand skills to her late father and mentor in the field, Dr. Michael L. Carunchio, DMD, a successful practicing dentist in northern NJ until his passing in 2014. Born and raised in New Jersey and a graduate from Hoboken’s own Stevens Institute of Technology, Dr. Carunchio has continued to make an effort to give back to the community. She has returned uptown on occasion to spread Oral Health awareness through the college’s health center, as well as holding educational talks to the students through an organization that she founded on the campus in 2005. In addition, with a particular interest in Cosmetic Surgery, she has opened our doors for in-office cosmetic procedures including injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers, scar revision, torn earlobe repair and re-piercing, to name a few.
